Overview
The strength of the Graphite Network lies in its collective intelligence. This intelligence is built upon two interconnected pillars: Legacy Payment Data (the input) and Network Protection (the verification). By analyzing historical payment patterns across thousands of unique connections, Graphite can identify trusted relationships and flag fraudulent anomalies before a single payment is made.
Legacy Payment Data: Building the Foundation
As a standard part of the onboarding process, Graphite requires all customers to provide historical payment data. This "Legacy Data" serves as the baseline for a supplier’s historical legitimacy within the network.
The Import Process
Customers provide de-identified records of previous payments, which are stored in a secure, encrypted data warehouse. This securely archived intelligence includes structural corporate identifiers, normalized account metadata, and historical transactional integrity metrics.
Core Benefits
- Legacy Data Verification: When a supplier onboards, their new banking entries are instantly cross-referenced against the legacy data. If the data matches a historically successful payment record, it confirms the account is active and valid.
- Fraud Detection: Uploaded legacy sets are screened against Graphite’s global database of known fraudulent records. Any match triggers an immediate notification to the customer, allowing them to remediate historical risks. Additionally, accounts will be flagged as a security risk if different entity shares the same bank account.
- Network Intelligence: Every new data set strengthens the overall network. By confirming that "Supplier A" has been paid successfully by "Customer B" for years, the network becomes more confident in "Supplier A" when they connect with "Customer C."
Network Protection (Premium Feature)
Network Protection (NP) is a proprietary security check available only to premium subscribers. It is the first active step in the Security Waterfall and is designed to provide the highest level of trust with the lowest possible friction.
Logic: Triangulated Verification
Instead of asking a supplier for a new document or a government ID, Network Protection utilizes advanced multi-point triangulation to analyze multi-source verification density and longitudinal account stability.
- Matching: The system matches the current banking instructions against verified records in the warehouse.
- Metadata Refresh: Upon a successful match, the record is updated with a fresh "refresh date." This ensures the data hasn't become stale.
- Risk Scrutiny: The system evaluates the number of unique sources confirming the account and the length of time the account has been active in the network.
Outcome
- Verified: Guaranteed: Premium subscribers leverage this high-confidence validation to seamlessly accelerate eligible suppliers past redundant secondary identity checks, moving them immediately into the Graphite Payment Guarantee.
- Waterfall Progression: If no match is found (or if the customer is a non-subscriber), the check is skipped, and the supplier proceeds to the next layer of the waterfall (Beneficiary Check or IDV).
Privacy and Data Integrity
Graphite maintains a strict wall between individual customer data sets.
- De-identification: While the network "knows" that a bank account is trusted, it does not reveal to "Customer A" which other customers have paid that supplier.
- Account Isolation: To maintain absolute Account Isolation, any newly introduced banking instructions are automatically routed to the initiation phase of the security waterfall, ensuring continuous data integrity.
