1. Open the invitation email
You’ll receive an email invitation to join Graphite and begin onboarding.
The email includes a link to enter the onboarding flow, along with quick-start guidance on what to expect.
2. Start the onboarding flow
After clicking the link, you’ll be taken into the onboarding experience.
You’ll begin by confirming basic details needed to set up your account and start the verification process.
3. Enter your name and email address
You’ll provide your name and the email address associated with the invitation.
When you submit this information, Graphite runs background checks such as checking the email/domain information.
These checks happen automatically and are not shown as separate steps in the experience.
4. Enter your phone number
You’ll be asked to provide a phone number. Please ensure this phone number can receive SMS messages.
At this point, Graphite runs a telecom check on the number and creates multi-factor authentication (MFA) to your account.
This step helps secure access to the account early in the process.
5. Complete multi-factor authentication
After entering your phone number, you’ll complete the MFA process.
This may happen by text message, or in some cases through an authenticator app.
Once this step is complete, your account is protected with an added layer of login security.
6. Fill out your business profile
You’ll continue by entering company and profile details needed for onboarding.
If you provide a website, Graphite may run a background website/domain check, even if that check is not visibly shown in the flow.
7. Complete tax and business information
You’ll be prompted to provide tax-related and business details, including W-9 information.
This part of the experience collects the information needed to establish your supplier profile and support downstream validation.
8. Add contacts and finish non-sensitive setup
You can continue filling out general profile details and contacts without immediately triggering identity verification.
In other words, you can still work through non-sensitive parts of onboarding before reaching steps tied to protected financial information.
9. Enter bank account details
Identity verification is tied to “fenced” or sensitive information. In order to submit this information, Graphite must verify your identity as part of our standard security protocols.
This is the point where additional verification may be required before continuing. Prior to reaching this step, we may have already been able to verify your identity through the domain check, telecom check and other processes that happen in the background as you completed onboarding.
However, in a small percentage of cases, we may ask for an Identity Verification process.
10. Complete identity verification if prompted
Once you reach the bank information step, you may be asked to verify your identity.
The provider options shown are dynamic and based on your location, using signals such as your IP address to determine your location.
A recommended set of providers appears first based on location, and you can also choose to view more options if needed. This "More Options" button will include additional geographies and verification methods.
In the Veriff flow, you’ll be asked to provide a valid government-issued ID. If you choose to use a mobile wallet or IDV provider such as CLEAR, you must already have an account created with them in order to use that technology. You cannot, for example, create a CLEAR account in the Graphite onboarding flow to pass the ID verification step.
11. Choose another option if needed
If one identity verification method does not work for you, you can back out and select a different provider.
The flow is designed to let you return to the provider selection step rather than forcing you down a single path.
Additional global options may be available for users working remotely or outside their expected home country.
12. Delegate or opt out in certain cases
Depending on your entity type and permissions, you may be able to delegate the task to another authorized team member.
This is especially relevant for businesses with multiple owners or corporate structures.
An opt-out path may also be available, but choosing it can delay onboarding and should be avoided.
A message will pop up asking you to submit a support ticket if you are having trouble. Support tickets are meaningfully addressed within 24 hours.
13. Continue, submit, and wait for review
After completing the required steps, you can continue through the remainder of onboarding, certify the information, and submit even if you have not completed the identity verification. However, if prompted, a delegated team member will need to complete ID verification or you will need to complete ID verification in order to complete all onboarding requests.
Important note on verification
In some cases, if beneficiary or bank checks pass through certain providers, the separate identity verification challenge may be skipped.
Suppliers can also complete and save non-sensitive parts of the onboarding flow even before ID verification is resolved.
